Adjustment of the parking brake

The parking brake is structurally completely independent of working brakes. Therefore wear of the parking brake is insignificant. Corrosion of a brake drum or pollution of brake shoes reduces the brake moment. If old blocks are regulated, the parking brake it is necessary to earn extra. For this purpose since speed of 40 km/h carefully tighten the parking brake so that braking process began. Keeping speed, tighten a brake on one tooth and pass about 400 more m. Thus, traces of corrosion act in film and the postponed products of wear are removed.

Adjustment of the parking brake is required at:
   a) To replacement of blocks of the parking brake.
   b) To replacement of a brake drum.
   c) To adjustment of provision of blocks.
   d) Need of a big inhaling (more than 10 teeth).

The cable of a drive of the parking brake and all mobile elements should have an easy course.


 PERFORMANCE ORDER

1. Turn on at both back wheels on one bolt of fastening of a wheel.
2. Lift and establish the car on supports.

3. Uncover the lever of the parking brake forward via the handle. Address to an accompanying illustration.

HUNDRED apply the special BMW-341030 adaptation to adjustment of parking brakes. The adaptation represents two face keys entering each other, adjusted on the various sizes of a lock-nut and an adjusting nut. If such adaptation is not present, it is necessary to uncover the lever and if necessary the central console.

4. Uncover the lever of the parking brake. For this purpose weaken a bolt (4). Turn out bolts (5) and (6), having removed previously caps. Disconnect a cover. For this purpose delay a cover behind up towards a seat of the driver and take out.

5. Unscrew two lock-nuts and adjusting bolts (shooters on an accompanying illustration) a cable of a drive of the parking brake. Completely weaken cables.

6. Completely turn out one bolt of fastening on each wheel. Turn a wheel so that the opening occupied the bottom situation. Will light a pocket small lamp in an opening. The adjusting nut should be thus visible.

Wheel, as is shown in an accompanying illustration, it is not necessary to remove.

7. Rotation of an adjusting nut (1) screw-driver (2) press brake shoes so that the wheel could not be turned manually. After that unscrew back on 8 teeth an adjusting nut. If the adjusting nut on the left side of the car rotates in the arrow direction (address to an accompanying illustration) brake shoes adjoin to a drum. On the right side of the car the nut rotates in an opposite direction.

8. After adjustment check, whether wheels freely rotate. If is not present, unscrew an adjusting nut. Wheels should rotate surely freely.

9. Adjust cables of a drive of a brake. For this purpose tighten the brake lever on 4 teeth and screw adjusting nuts (arrows on illustrations) so that the left and right back wheels could be turned evenly by hand. Release the lever of the parking brake and check, whether wheels freely rotate. If necessary repeat adjustment.

10. Completely release the brake lever.
11. Include ignition. The control lamp of the parking brake should not light up.
12. Tighten the lever of the parking brake on 1 tooth. Thus braking of back wheels should not be. Otherwise it is necessary to carry out adjustment again.
13. Tighten the lever of the parking brake on 2 teeth. The control lamp should light up now. If is not present, turn in inclusion contact on the brake lever.
14. Switch off ignition.
15. Tighten lock-nuts, holding adjusting nuts.
16. Fix a lateral cover of the lever of the parking brake. Put into place caps of bolts.
17. Hook from below and fix from above a forward cover of the lever of the parking brake.
18. Lower the car on wheels.
19. Screw two bolts of fastening of back wheels and tighten them the moment of 100 Nanometers. Establish caps of wheels.
