Replacement of impellent oil and oil filter

(For the diesel engine each 10 000 km)

Under trying conditions operation work is made twice more often.

Long contact of skin to the fulfilled impellent oil is quite dangerous. Use protective cream and put on gloves during carrying out this procedure. The clothes which have become impregnated with oil replace immediately.

Frequent replacement of impellent oil is the main preventive procedure of the service, to the available amateur mechanic. Eventually oil is subject to a razzhizheniye and pollution that conducts to premature wear of the engine.


1. Before starting to work, make sure available all necessary tool. You also should have near at hand enough of rags or old newspapers for collecting the spilled oil. For replacement of oil the following equipment is necessary:
   a) A viewing hole or the hydrolift and supports, a syringe for an oil suction.
   b) Depending on filter execution a head of 13 or 36 mm for an otvorachivaniye of the central bolt of the case of the filter.
   c) A head of 17 mm or 19 mm for an otvorachivaniye of a stopper of removal of oil, and also capacity for collecting oil in volume of 8 l (in case oil is not sucked away).

2. The following spare parts are necessary:
   a) If oil is not sucked away: A sealing ring from A12_15.5 aluminum for consolidation of a drain stopper. The ring can be delivered with the oil filter.
   b) A filtering element.
   c) A sealing ring for the case of the filter and depending on execution one or two sealing rings for the central bolt. For the same model of the engine two various executions of the filter can be delivered. It is necessary to mean it at acquisition of spare parts.
   d) Depending on the engine from 6.5 to 7.5 l of impellent oil. Apply only the oil recommended by Specifications. Surpluses of impellent oil can be removed by means of a syringe through an opening of the index of level.
3. Start the engine and warm up it to normal working temperature - warm oil and a sediment follow from the engine better. If it is necessary to buy new oil, the filter or any tools, go behind them on the car, thus you will warm up at the same time impellent oil.
4. Park the car on an equal surface and switch off the engine when it will enough get warm. Uncover mouths of the gulf of oil a cover of a head of cylinders.
5. For ensuring access to a drain stopper and the oil filter поддомкратьте the car and reliably establish it on support.

At all do not work under the car supported only by hydraulic or nozhnichny type by a jack - always use support!

7. Trying not to concern the warmed-up components, establish drain capacity under a drain stopper in the lower part of the engine.

8. Clear the area round a stopper sideways the case pallet, then give a stopper. It is recommended at a stopper otdavaniye on the last some turns to use rubber gloves, not to get burns hot oil. During untwisting of a stopper try to press it to a case, and then sharply pull out it. It will help you to avoid contact of a hand to a stream of hot oil, and as possibility of loss of a stopper in drain capacity.

9. In process of weakening of a pressure of oil at an effluence, probably, change of provision of capacity under a case is required. Check old oil on existence of metal particles, it can warn in advance you about wear of the engine. To exclude the reasons of further damages after repair it is necessary to clean oil channels and hoses carefully. In addition, if it is established, it is necessary to replace an oil radiator.
10. After removal of old oil wipe a drain stopper pure rags. Any, even the smallest metal parts which have stuck to a stopper, will immediately pollute new oil.

Replacement of the oil filter, execution with the central bolt


1. Turn out the central bolt (1) in a cover of the oil filter. Execution with the central bolt.
2. Uncover (2) with the central bolt (1).
3. Wait, oil from the filter case will not flow down yet. Then take out filtering element (3). Wipe a rag flowing-down oil.

4. Insert into the filter case a new filtering element.

Observe the instructions provided on the filter.

5. Clear a cover of the oil filter. Replace sealing rings (arrows on an accompanying illustration) on the central bolt and a cover, having greased from impellent oil.

6. Put from above a cover with the central bolt and press it. Thus the central bolt should enter into an opening in the case bottom.
7. Tighten the central bolt the moment of 25 Nanometers.

Replacement of the oil filter, execution with a screw cover


1. Unscrew a cover a head of 36 mm. HUNDRED BMW firms for this purpose use the special tool which is established for external diameter of a cover. Address to an accompanying illustration.
2. Wait, while oil will not flow down from the filter case. After that take out filtering element (1). Flowing-down oil wipe a rag.

3. Insert into the filter case a new filtering element.

Observe the instructions provided on the filter.

4. Replace rubber sealing rings (shooters) on an oil pipeline and a cover. Grease them with impellent oil.
5. Put from above a cover of the oil filter with an oil pipeline and press. Thus the oil pipeline should enter into an opening in the case bottom.
6. Tighten a cover of the oil filter the moment of 25 Nanometers.

System filling


1. Screw a drain stopper with a new sealing ring and tighten densely, but without the appendix of excessive force. Moment of an inhaling of a bolt of 17 mm: 30 Nanometers, bolt of 19 mm: 60 Nanometers.
2. Fill in in system through a jellied mouth of a cover of a head of cylinders new oil of demanded quality and viscosity. The volume of filled-in oil is presented in Specifications.
3. Start the engine and let's to it work on the raised number of turns (about 2500 rpm) until the control lamp (about 5 c) will go out. Stop the engine.
4. Wait for 5 mines and measure oil level by the level index.
5. Close a cover in the bottom guard of an impellent compartment under the pallet of a case and a screw-driver with a crosswise shliyets turn a clip on a turn quarter, having closed a cover.
6. Pass on the car and check tightness of a drain stopper and the oil filter. If necessary carefully tighten them.
7. Stop the warm engine and through 2 mines once again check oil level. If necessary add in system oil.
8. If it is necessary, return to a starting position the index of intervals of service. For this purpose the special device sold by BMW firm is required. If necessary this operation HUNDRED carry out free of charge.
9. It is necessary to apply oil of identical type to the best control of an operational condition of the engine and, whenever possible, brand. It is for this purpose recommended at oil replacement on the engine to strengthen a label with the indication of brand and viscosity of oil.
10. Any change such as oil is not recommended. Impellent oils of identical type, and brand, but various viscosity can be filled in in system in case of need in a transition period of a season.
